Once you decide to go into business: Check local zoning regulations to see in what zone your business can operate (303-795-3754). Understand federal, state, and local tax laws. Contact the IRS (800-829-1040) for federal taxes, the Colorado Department of Revenue (303-238-7378) for state taxes, and the City of Littleton’s Sales Tax Division (303-795-3768 or 303-795-3956) for city taxes. If you are a Corporation, Limited Partnership, LLC, Sole Proprietorship or General Partnership, file your corporate papers and register your trade name with the Secretary of State (303-894-2200). If you sell tangible property, get a Colorado Sales Use Tax Application Form from the Colorado Department of Revenue (303-238-7378). All businesses—whether or not they sell tangible property—need to get a City of Littleton Use Tax Application Form from the Littleton Sales Tax Division (303-795-3768). Contact the Division of Labor (303-318-8441) for minimum wage laws. Obtain anti-discrimination posters from the Civil Rights Commission (303-894-2997). |
