Econ-Dev Mail List

The City of Littleton, Colorado maintains a mail list on the Internet called Econ-Dev. The purpose of the mail list is to encourage discussion about an entrepreneurial approach to economic development (economic gardening) among industry professionals. Subscribe to the list below.

The list typically has 300-400 subscribers consisting of economic development practitioners, academics, economists, consultants, students, the media and writers, elected officials and other individuals and institutions interested in the theory and practice of economic development. The list is also used to post job openings in the profession, to announce conferences and call for papers, and to notify participants of local, state and national legislation affecting the profession.

The list is not moderated and we do not keep archives. In general, we encourage discussion about a broad range of topics and try not to limit the free flow of ideas. Like many areas of the Internet, we receive our share of spamming and inappropriate posts but we consider that one of the drawbacks of the medium and try to live with it. Most participants on the list are from the United States and Canada but we also have subscribers from the U.K., Australia, South Africa, Norway, China, Netherlands, Greece, Brazil, Russia, Japan, Venezuela, Portugal, Argentina, Germany, Taiwan, New Zealand, France, Peru and the Ukraine.

The City of Littleton has an interest in the concept of "economic gardening" or the idea that economies can be grown from the inside through entrepreneurial activity. We run a nationally recognized demonstration program which is based on this simple principle of nurturing entrepreneurs. Of particular interest are the roles that temperament, innovation and chaos/complexity theory play in the economic development process.
