The department is comprised of two divisions. The Planning Division provides guidance for the growth and development of the city including long range planning, current planning (the review of land development applications), historic preservation, housing inspections and neighborhood services (linking neighbors to resources).

The Building, Codes and Inspections Division oversees actual construction and compliance with the city’s codes including managing building inspections and investigating all complaints regarding compliance with city codes such as trash, derelict vehicles, weeds, etc. The department strives to ensure quality, viable development that encourages a community-minded balance and promotes the values, goals, and welfare of the city.
