Littleton Fire Rescue (LFR) provides emergency response services and life safety education programs to the citizens of the City of Littleton, the Littleton Fire Protection District, and Highlands Ranch Metro District. This service is provided to approximately 220,000 people residing in an 92 square-mile area. Emergency response services include: fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response, technical rescue, dive rescue and recovery, as well as wildland fire suppression.

In 2010, LFR responded to more than 12,000 calls for service from eight fire stations located throughout the service area. Seventy percent of those calls were medical emergencies. Each LFR fire engine and rescue vehicle is fully equipped for advanced life support capabilities.

LFR’s Prevention Division manages code review and revision, plan review, code enforcement, and fire/arson investigations.

The Communications Center is the "first" first responder on fire and medical emergencies. This team provides assistance and information to citizens, both to emergency 911 calls and to routine fire request calls, 24 hours daily. If needed, communications specialists assist with CPR and rescue breathing instructions over the phone until paramedic/fire personnel arrive.

Life Safety Education programs teach citizens how to minimize risks and make wise choices to prevent accidents. The life safety educator provides programs throughout the school year to students from pre-school through 12th grade. The community education officer provides classes to the public. Special events, such as station tours, open houses, and ice cream socials provide opportunities to teach in an entertaining yet meaningful format. Educational programs include: Juvenile Firesetter; Bear; Bike Helmet Safety; Extinguisher Training; Bystander CPR; Commonsense, Awareness, Responsibility (target audience: teenage drivers); internship program; characterization team; and Kids Mini Academy.
