Littleton Fire Rescue EMS Staff

Eugene "Gene" Eby, M.D.
Medical Director for Littleton Fire Rescue

Eugene "Gene" Eby, M.D., serves as an emergency physician at Porter, Littleton and Parker Adventist Hospitals. With 31 years of combined experience in EMS and emergency medicine, Dr. Eby brings a wealth of knowledge and hands-on practice skills to his role as medical director for Littleton Fire Rescue.

Dr. Eby received his emergency medicine training at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ, where he also served as chief resident. During his residency, Dr. Eby interned for both the Rural Metro Corporate medical director as well as the Phoenix Fire director. In addition to serving as a physician for 13 years and in emergency medicine for the past nine years, Dr. Eby worked 11 out of his 13 years in EMS as a Denver Health paramedic.

With seven years as a fire-based medical director, Dr. Eby has enjoyed several career highlights that includes redesigning the metro area hospital divert program. In addition, he was responsible for establishing EMSystem, an Internet-based divert/disaster notification system, which has since been implemented across Colorado. Dr. Eby was also instrumental in designing a Cardiac Alert Program, which streamlines the care of cardiac patients by integrating pre-hospital and hospital care. The program, which has been implemented in many metro-area hospitals, including Littleton Adventist Hospital, better coordinates patient care faster, yielding more positive patient outcomes.

Additionally, Dr. Eby coordinated the MCI review committee at Denver Health Medical Center and served as a first responder to the Continental Airline flight 1713 crash at Stapleton International Airport in 1987. He has been actively involved in Colorado's DMAT and USAR teams and was deployed with the Colorado USAR team to the World Trade Center disaster in 2001.

Dr. Eby is a proud fourth generation Denver native. He is happily married and has four children, all boys. During his time off, Dr. Eby takes advantage of Colorado's unique landscape. His hobbies include skiing, hiking, bicycling and photography.
