Permits and Plan Reviews
The Littleton Fire Rescue permit program has two goals: first, to facilitate the inventory of the types and quantities of hazardous materials, processes, and equipment present in the district; and second, to insure through inspections, that the applicants for such permits would not present an unacceptable hazard to the fire district. All applications for a required permit must be made to the Fire Prevention Division, which can require plans to accompany applications for such items as propane tanks, underground fuel tanks, and places of assembly (seating plans). Businesses not having required permits at the time of an inspection should apply to the Fire Department for a permit. After a permit application has been made to the Fire Department, an inspection of the premises will determine whether the application is approved or rejected. Permits constitute permission to maintain, store, use or handle materials, or to conduct processes which produce conditions hazardous to life or property, or to install equipment used in connection with such activities. This permission cannot be construed as authority to violate any provisions of the Uniform Fire Code. Permits are issued with the understanding that the applicant will carry out the activity in compliance with the Uniform Fire Code and any approved plans accompanying the application. Permits may be revoked for due cause as described in the Uniform Fire Code. Permits issued by the Fire Prevention Bureau are valid for a period of one year. Businesses requiring more than one permit can have individual permits consolidated into a single permit. Permits are required for, but not limited to, the following activities:
