School and Youth Programs
9-1-1 Education
Taught by members of Littleton Fire Communication Center, this class targets Kindergarten through second grade, as well as senior citizens. It teaches the proper use of 9-1-1, including when it is appropriate to call 9-1-1.
Bicycle Safety
Littleton Fire Rescue will conduct a Bicycle Rodeo for groups of 40 or more children with a minimum age of four years. Helmets are required for participation and may be provided to families in need.
C.A.R. Program
Commonsense—Awareness—Responsibility is a program designed for teen age drivers that can be scheduled at any high school. It includes a personalized program of pictures and discussion in regards to a firefighter’s response to a motor vehicle crash involving teenagers.
Characterization Program
This presentation includes a combination of puppets and characters to present basic fire and injury prevention messages to elementary school children. A minimum of 100 children are required and the show time is approximately 45 minutes.
Elementary Education (K through 5th grade)
Requests for an educational session on any life safety education topic can be scheduled at any time. Each lesson is designed to be age-appropriate as well as group specific.
Hazard House
This tabletop display of a multi-level home demonstrates the hazards associated with each room in a home. It can be reserved for elementary classrooms of up to 50 children or for community groups.
Juvenile Fire Setter Intervention and Education
This program provides education to juveniles aged three to 18 years who have displayed an interest or curiosity in fire play. Individual sessions are scheduled with each child, accompanied by at least one parent or guardian.
Life Safety House
This mobile safety trailer provides an in-depth tour of typical rooms found in a home and the fire hazards associated with each room. Simulated smoke gives participants an opportunity to practice a safe escape. The Life Safety House is displayed at most community functions sponsored by Littleton Fire and may be requested for third grade school presentations. A minimum of two classrooms must sign up.
Life Skills Training
This program was introduced as a pilot Blue-Print Program in Fall 2001 for Littleton Public Schools. It is a drug and alcohol prevention program for sixth through eighth graders which focuses on teaching skills such as decision making, communication, and social skills to enable them to better resist peer pressure.
Mini-Academy
Held twice during the summer months a Littleton fire station, this four-day academy for children ages eight through 12 interactively teaches children about fire safety, bicycle safety, kitchen safety, first aid, and the life of a firefighter. Each class is limited to 25 students and priority is given to members of Littleton Fire Rescue’s coverage area.
Middle School Education (6th through 8th grade)
Requests for an educational session on fire and injury prevention with a Life Safety Educator can be scheduled at anytime. Age-appropriate lessons are taught.
Pre-school Education (3 to 5 years old)
Requests for an educational session on fire and injury prevention with a Life Safety Educator can be scheduled at anytime. Age-appropriate lessons are taught.
