The Community Development Department has four Divisions. The Administration Division is responsible for the administration and provision of services for the Department divisions for administration of the City’s historic preservation programs. The Codes and Inspections Division is responsible for reviewing construction plans; issuing building permits; managing building inspections; investigating complaints regarding compliance with City codes; seeking and negotiating resolution of code violations; administering the Summer Cleanup and Recycling Program; systematically inspecting multiple-family rental housing for compliance with City codes.
The Planning Division is responsible for developing and updating the city’s comprehensive plan and its various elements; for implementing the comprehensive plan through the review of development and rezoning applications and through the writing, updating, and implementing of land use regulations, including zoning; and for providing neighborhood services that link neighbors to resources.
The Economic Development Division provides the resources that encourage business development of new and existing businesses as well as growth companies, resulting in sustainability, net job creation and increased tax revenues. Services include providing strategic planning and information, fostering strategic connections and working with other departments to provide the necessary infrastructure for a good business environment. Additionally, the Community Development Department is responsible for the administration of the Planning Board, Historical Preservation Board, Board of Adjustment and Board of Appeals.
