Back to Littleton Press Room House Fire on Little Gull Court in Douglas CountyAt 4:09 p.m. on November 3, Littleton Fire Rescue (LFR) received a call reporting a house fire in the 8700 block of South Little Gull Court in the Littleton Fire Protection District portion of unincorporated Douglas County. LFR crews arrived on scene at 4:15 p.m. and reported a fully involved two-story, single-family house fire. Bystanders reported to LFR that everyone was out of the house, and due to the amount and intensity of the fire, LFR started a defensive, exterior fire attack to prevent the flames from spreading to a nearby home which was only 10-15 feet away. A short time later, the first and second floors of the rear half of the house collapsed into the basement. This collapsed area continued burning into the evening due to the difficulty of extinguishing the fire beneath the wall and roof sections that fell into the basement. As a result, fire crews stayed on-scene through the night to watch over the smoldering debris. There were four occupants in the home at the time of the fire. They heard the smoke detectors activate, and then evacuated through the rear door of the house through dense smoke. They all escaped without injury, although one person was taken to a hospital for precautionary reasons. The homeowners reported that two pets in the home, a dog and a cat, were still missing hours after the fire. There were no firefighter injuries. The house is considered a total loss, although there were some salvageable items located in the garage, which was relatively undamaged. Dollar-loss estimates are not yet available. The cause of the fire has not been determined at this time. The occupants reported seeing flames in the basement windows after fleeing into the backyard. Fire investigators are still waiting for large items of debris to be cleared from the basement before they can begin looking for an area of fire origin and a fire cause. |
