Workshop Scheduled for Potential City Council Candidates

Are you interested in becoming a Littleton City Council Member? Citizens interested in running for city council should begin thinking about it now. Join City Clerk Wendy Heffner and City Attorney Suzanne Staiert at the Littleton Center in the Community Room on Thursday, June 9 at 6 p.m. for a public forum for potential city council candidates.

This forum will discuss qualifications, duties, nomination petitions, circulation requirements, political signs, Fair Campaign Practices Act (FCPA) requirements and election committee reporting dates.

There are four seats to be determined in the November 1, 2011 election: District II, District IV, and two At Large seats. These are four-year terms with the exception of one at-large position. According to the City Charter, the At-Large candidate receiving the highest number of votes will serve a four-year term and the At-Large candidate receiving the second highest number will serve a two-year term.

Council generally meets the first and third Tuesdays of the month for regular meetings. There are additional meetings for special sessions, as well as other obligations such as attendance at committee meetings and serving as a liaison to a board or commission.

An Election Guide will be available beginning June 9 at 6 p.m. at the candidate forum, or from the City Clerk's Office, located at 2255 W. Berry Avenue, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., after June 9. This guide has been prepared for the candidates and their committees as a general guide. Littleton's municipal elections are non-partisan which means there is no formally declared affiliation with a political party.

For further information contact the City Clerk's Office at 303-795-3753.
