Burglar Poses as Neighborhood Snow Shoveler
On January 11, Littleton Police Officer D. Ford responded to 2466 W. Sunset Dr. on a report of a burglary that just occurred. When he arrived on scene, the homeowner pointed out strange footprints on the property leading up to the residence. Over the previous several hours, a couple of inches of fresh snow had accumulated so Officer Ford, along with other officers, began tracking the footprints for a possible suspect.
A short time later, a witness was identified and reported to officers that a stranger approached him offering to shovel his sidewalks. The witness provided a brief description to officers, including that he was carrying a black and red snow shovel. The officers continued to follow the footprints which lead to multiple other homes and backyards.
After tracking the footprints over a half mile, Officers contacted Leandro John Gonzales, DOB/12-14-1983, who matched the description provided by the witness. After further investigation, Gonzales was taken into custody and the homeowner’s property was returned. Gonzales was booked into the Arapahoe County Jail, to be held on $50,000 bond, for charges of Second Degree Burglary, Theft, and Criminal Possession of a Financial Device. |
