The City of Littleton contracts with American Traffic Solutions (ATS) to provide red-light camera enforcement at the following intersections in Littleton:

  • South Santa Fe Drive at West Mineral Avenue
  • South Santa Fe Drive at West Bowles Avenue
  • South Broadway at Littleton Boulevard
  • West Bowles Avenue at South Platte Canyon Road (north and eastbound approaches)
  • South Broadway at Mineral Avenue (north and eastbound approaches)

As a reminder, the sensors in the road are activated if a car enters the intersection after the light turns red. According to the Model Traffic Code, a vehicle facing a steady circular red signal shall stop at a clearly marked stop line, but, if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection which is defined as "the area embraced within the prolongation of the lateral curb lines" or the" lateral boundary lines of the roadways of two highways which join one another at, or approximately at, right angles." In essence it is a violation to enter the intersection after the signal has turned red.

Cameras operate 24 hours a day and capture images of every vehicle running a red-light at the intersections. Warning signs are installed before of each intersection, alerting drivers to the presence red-light cameras. The cost of the camera enforcement is offset by the fines paid by those caught violating red lights. ATS systems are in more than 150 communities in the U.S. In Colorado, cities with programs include Greenwood Village, Cherry Hills Village, Lone Tree and Pueblo.

Violations recorded by camera are forwarded to a police officer to evaluate the evidence. If the officer confirms that the captured images show a violation, a summons will be issued to the registered owner of the vehicle. That owner can pay for the violation by mail or contest it in Littleton Municipal Court. The owner will be provided with the captured images of the violation at the time the summons is issued.

Red light enforcement The program is administered by American Traffic Solutions, Inc. (ATS) with each violation reviewed and approved by the Littleton Police Department. Information about ATS is available at www.RedLightCamera.com.
