Crime victims compensation program

Victims of crime reported in the City of Littleton may now be eligible for compensation. In 2004, the Littleton City Council passed an ordinance that levies a surcharge on fines in Municipal Court. A portion of this fund is dedicated to compensating victims of property crime in Littleton.

There are several expenses for which claims can be made: exterior car damage not attributable to a traffic accident; towing or impound charges for recovered stolen vehicles; exterior damage to residential property; mental health services; and lost wages due to a crime. Other kinds of claims are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

There is a five-member, council-appointed board which meets once per month to consider claims and make awards in appropriate cases. Over $2,600 has been awarded in compensation since the board authorized its first award in August, 2004.

For further information, or to obtain an application, call Linda Suttle, Victim Assistance Coordinator, in the Littleton Police Department at 303 795-3703.
