Volunteer positions with the Littleton Police Department

  • Clerical Assistance — Volunteers are assigned to positions throughout the department which need assistance, including computer entry of pawn tickets, assisting Police Records with fingerprinting as well as other clerical duties, answering phones for Police Administration when coordinators are absent; other clerical duties as assigned. Computer data entry experience preferred. Successful candidates will complete an interview as well as a background check prior to acceptance. Volunteers will comply with a specific dress code.

The following volunteer positions are being considered for future implementation, but LPD is not accepting applications for these positions at this time:

  • Volunteer Patrol and Surveillance — Volunteers provide extra patrol, help with crowd control and security at special functions, assist with training new volunteers, and provide assistance to the department with training operations.1
  • Handicap Parking Enforcement — Volunteers patrol parking lots and issue summonses to vehicles illegally parked in spaces reserved for the handicapped. 1,2
  • Radar Patrol / Motorist Assist — Volunteers are trained on the use of radar guns and patrol neighborhoods where speeding is an issue requiring investigation. VIPS will also assist motorist in dead vehicles to relieve safety concerns.1
  • Red Light Runners — Volunteers are trained on the use of camera and clerical reports required to document the Red Light Runners and send appropriate follow up letters.1,3
  • Abandoned / Found Property Pickup — Volunteers are dispatched to retrieve abandoned or found property items and book these items into the Police Department's Property Section.1,4
  • Senior Checkup and Vacation surveillance — Volunteers handle requests to check on elderly persons or handicapped persons and make referrals for services or assistance as needed. 1,5
  • For Love of Kids — Volunteers are dispatched to schools and community program areas to do fingerprinting and DNA testing for a National database the addresses a proactive approach to missing children.1,7
  • Puffer Patrol — Volunteers assist patrol officers during the winter months by distributing educational information about auto thefts to vehicle owners who leave vehicles unattended with the motor running.1
  • Financial Assist Crisis Team (FACT) — Financial Assist Crisis Team volunteers will assist the department by adding a personal touch to the step-by-step procedures of dealing with identity theft. Will work directly with detectives department. Volunteers must complete FACT training.1
  • Finger Printing and Cold Reports — Volunteers provide fingerprinting and walk in reports on Tuesday through Fridays 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. excluding holidays at the police department.1,4

1 Must be a graduate of the Littleton Police Citizen Academy and complete the V.I.P.S. training.

6 Must complete special training form Community Resource Coordinator.
7 Must complete fingerprinting training provided by department
