2012 Utility Billing InformationProperties Inside the City LimitsA single-family residence will be assessed $233.02 per year for sewage treatment and maintenance of city sewer lines. There are a small number of residences in the city limits that are also within a sanitation district. Since the city does not maintain these sewer mains, the sewage treatment fee from the city is $176.85. Additional charges may be assessed by the sanitation district for maintenance. Storm drainage rates are applicable only to properties located inside the city limits. Single-family units are a flat $24 per year and commercial properties are based on the impervious area of the property. A multi-family residence will be assessed $198.06 per dwelling unit for sewage treatment and maintenance of city sewer lines. Multi-family residences in the city and within one of the sanitation districts will have a sewage treatment fee of $150.32 per unit. Additional charges may be assessed by the sanitation district for maintenance. A commercial or industrial user will be assessed $4.27 per thousand gallons of wastewater with a minimum charge of $95.99. Properties Outside the City LimitsLittleton provides wastewater treatment services to most city residents and to residents of eight sanitation districts in the southwest metropolitan area. Properties within these districts are assessed sewer treatment charges only. A single-family residence will be assessed $212.21 per year for sewage treatment. Sewer lines are maintained by the sanitation district in which the property is located and that district may bill for maintenance, or may have a property tax assessment. A multi-family residence will pay $180.38 per dwelling unit. A commercial or industrial user will be assessed $2.32 per thousand gallons of wastewater with a minimum charge of $115.18. HOW THE MONEY IS SPENTSewage, or wastewater, is a combination of liquid and solid wastes from residences, commercial buildings, industrial plants and institutions. The city is responsible for regulating the collection of wastewater, as well as its treatment. The sewer service charge is used to pay for the costs associated with this responsibility. DELINQUENCYFull Payment is due August 15, 2012. If full payment is not received by 5:00 pm August 20, 2012, payment will be considered delinquent and a 10 percent delinquent penalty will be assessed to the balance remaining. If full payment is not received by 5:00 pm September 15, 2012, an additional 10 percent delinquent penalty will be assessed to any remaining balance and a past due bill will be sent in September. For questions call 303-795-3772. After 5 p.m. October 15, 2012, the city will not be able to accept any payments for the 2012 calendar year. COLLECTION OF UNPAID CHARGES The county treasurer will enforce any delinquent amount by placing a lien on the property that is added to the property tax bill. The county will add an additional 10 percent as its collection fee. The total amount must be paid to the county before the lien can be released from the property. After October 15, 2012 the city will not accept any payments for the 2012 calendar year. The county treasurer must be contacted after January of 2013 for payment information. |
