Do you remember The Denver Dry Goods Co., Daniels and Fisher, May Co., Joslins or Fashion Bar? Listen to entertaining tales and see photos of Denver’s long-gone department stores, with local author and historian Mark Barnhouse. The story of these institutions is filled with fascinating characters, including dashing, tower-building William Cooke Daniels; his aristocratic English wife, Cicely; and flamboyant William Zeckendorf, whose dreams outpaced his finances. Generations of Denverites shopped these stores and still remember white-gloved sales ladies and meals served in the D&F Tea Room. Fashion Bar began in 1933 as a Denver hosiery store and became Colorado's largest, privately held clothing retailer in 1992. Join author Mark Barnhouse as he brings these stores back to life! After the presentation the audience will have an opportunity to share memories of favorite stores no longer in existence. Copies of the speaker’s book, The Denver Dry Goods: Where Colorado Shopped with Confidence, will be available for purchase and signing.Return to full list >>
