Wonder Wednesday Program - Sashiko Stitching
- Date: 06/12/2019 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Sashiko, or “little stabs,” is a folk textile tradition that began in Japan in the 1600’s. Originally a method to add weight and warmth to fabric, it was used to stitch old pieces of cloth together into new clothing for people too poor to buy new cloth.
Today, we most often see sashiko in repairs on denim and as decorative additions to clothing and housewares. Its repetitive, simple stitching is both beautiful to wear and meditative to make. Join us for our next Wonder Wednesday as local embroidery artist Cari Roberts shows you how to stitch traditional patterns and play with needle and thread.
Free. Ages 8 and up. All supplies provided; no sewing experience necessary.
***This Wonder Wednesday is limited to 30 participants. Free tickets will be available at the Littleton Museum starting Tuesday, May 14, 2019.
