Home MenuHome Occupations
A "home occupation" is any business or service of limited scope, conducted entirely within a dwelling and carried solely by its residents. Such uses must be clearly incidental and secondary to the primary use of the premises for residential purposes. The exterior of the property cannot be altered for the purpose of operating a home occupation, nor can the existence of a home occupation affect the residential character of the neighborhood. Home occupations are permitted in any A-1, R-S, R-L, R-E, R-1, R-2, R-3, R-3X, R-4, M.H., or R-5 Residential Zone Districts; within residential uses in the T or CA District; or any portion of a Planned Development Plan approved for residential use.
NOTE: A "home occupation" is not, for any purpose, a "home-based business."
Approval to operate a home occupation can be obtained from the Littleton Permit Center. Following are the steps to obtain approval:
- Complete the Home Occupation Application on the eTRAKiT Portal.
It is important, for timely processing of the application, to provide your name, the address of residence where the home occupation is to be conducted; a daytime telephone number and a thorough description of the business you wish to conduct.
By applying, you are making a commitment to abide by the City Code regulations governing home occupations.
- Occasionally, the type of home occupation proposed requires an inspection of your residence. In the event an inspection is necessary, it will be scheduled at your convenience during normal city business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday). The inspection, if required, must be completed prior to approval of the home occupation application.
