Littleton's fiscal year runs from January 1 to December 31 each year. The city's annual budget gives city staff the authority to spend funds according to policy goals set by the Littleton City Council. The city manager prepares the budget with assistance from the finance department and department managers, and presents it to city council. The council holds a public hearing on the proposed budget and the final budget is approved in November or December each year. The finance department prepares a Budget Brief to summarize the highlights of the budget.
