This procedure establishes a process for full closure, early closure, or delayed opening of city facilities in the case of severe weather conditions, natural disaster, or unforeseen circumstances. City staff who are excluded from this procedure include essential (emergency) personnel and management or professional employees who are required to work in order to ensure the public health, safety and welfare.
The city manager or his designee, in consultation with the police chief, fire chief and public works director, will evaluate road conditions and weather forecasts and determine by 6 a.m. (when possible) if city facilities will close or delay opening. Generally, a delayed opening will be 10 a.m. and an early closure will be 3 p.m. A full closure will be considered when the National Weather Service issues a blizzard warning for Littleton and surrounding areas. When possible, a determination will be made the night prior if a blizzard warning is expected.
The communications department staff will make every effort to post timely and accurate information about closures. Employees are responsible for utilizing the following resources to make themselves aware of changes to work schedules:
